Press Release Story

In preparation for this year's Dec. 3 "Civil War" game, the Morrison Bridge's lights will shine bright orange starting on Nov. 23.

"More than 40,000 alumni call the greater Portland area home," says Todd Simmons, writer for Oregon State University, making this city the perfect spot to encourage fans anticipating the game.

The Morrison Bridge connects east and west Portland, standing out among Portland's iconic features.

The LED lights will be "Powered by Orange," as part of the new spirit-building campaign OSU initiated. Sustainability and energy preservation takes on a key role as the lights are set to come on at dusk and then go off at 1 a.m. At 5 a.m. these lights, which use only 82 watts of electricity apiece, will come on again until 8 a.m.

OSU is not the only college with committed fans in Portland. The University of Oregon website declares that, "more than 35,000 University of Oregon graduates live and work in the Portland area, the most highly populated area of Ducks anywhere in the world!"

This website also highlights the 103,000 square-foot green facility used in Portland as a sister campus.

The U of O Athletics website schedules the game starting at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday in December. The game will be covered by ESPN.

These orange lights on Morrison Bridge will run through game day on Dec. 3, when OSU and
U of O will meet in Eugene for the annual "Civil War" and battle for the Rose Bowl.

A good follow up story would be to interview a couple from Portland. One an alumni from OSU and another an alumni from U of O. Their perspectives on the orange lights would create a fun dialogue.

Another good source would be someone involved with "Powered by Orange." It would be interesting to hear why they chose this particular project over others.

  1. Excellent press release. Its nice to hear that OSU continues to create spirit outside of Corvallis. Another interesting follow up could be someone who isn't a fan of either team to see if the lights got them to watch the game.
